Predator 2 was inevitable. You can't jump start a story with a creature like Predator and now want to explore everything there is about him and rightfully so. However, there were some serious mis-steps in the making of this sequel and casting was definitely part of it. The fact that Schwarzenegger did not return having decided (rightfully so) to do T2 was a huge misfortune for the film makers. Furthermore choosing Danny Glover as their star was simply a big mistake. I like Glover but he's a supporting/character/sidekick actor not a star that can carry the film. Taking the Predator out of the jungle was interesting but ultimately a bad decision. There was something instinctual and animalistic about Predator hunting in the jungle and it just seems awkward and forced in the city landscape. The most important thing about Predator 2 is the details they put into learning more about what and who the Predator is. We see their ship, more into their arsenal and their vision capabilities. Predator 2 feels like it leans more into the horror genre than the action and while the Predator focus is good it loses a lot of points in style, plot and action.I don't want to harp anymore on Danny Glover but his role in this was ludicrous. Schwarzenegger was so good because it was completely believe that this war bred soldier could fight with everything he had against this larger than life being from another world. Glover does the same and in fact seems to give the Predator an even bigger battle than Schwarzenegger did without pushing himself as much and that just seems ludicrous. He was the wrong choice for this film. Gary Busey is decent as the Predator obsessed Peter Keyes. He doesn't get a lot of scenes but he does well in them, just a tad cheesy at times which is typical Busey. Kevin Peter Hall returns as The Predator and he deserves mention because his massive hulking presence and his body language speaks volumes and makes you believe this being from another planet. Supporting cast including a very young Bill Paxton, Maria Conchita Alonso and Adam Baldwin in decent but small mostly insignificant roles. Paxton is fun but brief without a lot of depth to his character. I almost would have bought him as the hero before Glover.Another strike against Predator 2 was the loss of the amazing John McTiernan for Stephen Hopkins. Nothing against the guy because he's done some good TV later on and a (meaning one) decent movie, The Ghost and The Darkness but he didn't have the same level of commitment or experience needed to do this one justice. As I mentioned, its not a complete loss. There are some solid scenes, some decent action and the last scene on the spacecraft is impressive to Predator fans. I really felt like the biggest issue was Glover in the starring role. He doesn't carry the film that way it needs to be. Obviously you can't experience Predator without seeing this film but it certainly is a bit of a let down once you've watched the first one. Its a little less cheesy than the first but lacks that certain classic feel. 6.5/10

Los Angeles is a gangland warzone and LAPD lieutenant Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover) is in the middle of it all with his team Danny Archuleta (Rubén Blades), and Leona Cantrell (Maria Conchita Alonso). However Mike encounters an unexplainable invisible presence. The bloody gangland feud is actually the work of the Predator. Captain Phil Heinemann (Robert Davi) pulls them off the case and mouthy newcomer Jerry Lambert (Bill Paxton) is assigned to his team. DEA agent Peter Keyes (Gary Busey) takes over and he keeps pushing them away from the case. The movie is loud for the sake of being loud. There is definitely good action and there is no sense of subtlety. It starts by turning L.A. into a wild shooting gallery, adds a splash of voodoo, and puts Glover in the center of it all. Glover does a good job but he's no Arnold Schwarzenegger. It's not a particularly good movie but it's not bad either.

Under the Hunter's Moon' is a multi-level Single Player campaign based on the 20th Century Fox movie, 'Alien vs Predator' (2004) explored from the Perspective of one of the Predator initiates that enters the pyramid. The Campaign is structured to follow the events of the AvP movie up until the point where two young Predators are killed by the Alien known as 'Grid'. That event does not occur in this Campaign and an alternate narrative branches just prior to this incident.
What makes this map pack so ULTIMATE, is that it contains nearly every single fully-functioning multiplayer map ever released for AvP2. The only maps that are omitted from this map pack are those that are glitched, broken or those published after UMP3's release (which are only a handful and will likely be included in a future update). There are a LOT of custom maps in this map pack and there are many available for various multiplayer modes. If you already installed the Master Server Patch and are looking to play multiplayer, UMP3 would be first on your list to download and install. It's often necessary to install it too as many of the multiplayer servers run UMP3 and require it to join.
Under the Hunter's Moon is a predator campaign inspired by the first AVP movie and is largely faithful to the movie's pyramid setting. It's a rather long campaign that will appeal largely to players who enjoy predator vs alien combat. What makes this campaign so unique is that it relies on a lot of puzzle solving, trap evasion and fighting with limited weaponry. Under the Hunter's Moon also utilizes a lot of ally predator npcs that the player must protect and escort. This is a great campaign for those looking for a challenge.
The AvP2 2007 Complete Texture Overhaul is a bit of a misleading title. Many players will download this mod looking for HD textures, but that isn't what it offers. This texture pack will essentially swap all the game's textures and replace them with desaturated textures; that is textures that are less vibrant and more on the gray scale. If you find AvP2 to be too colorful and want a more gritty look, this is the texture pack for you.
AJL mod is one of the first mods for AvP2 that heavily edited the game's source code. By doing so, the mod introduces vastly different gameplay mechanics from the original game. Some players love the new gameplay mechanics, while others hate it. It definitely takes some getting used to after playing the original game. AJL mod attempts to be faithful to movies by introducing new weaponry from the source material and it does so rather well. If you can get past the learning curve on the new gameplay mechanics, there is fun to be had, but it is unfortunately a multiplayer only mod. It removes the single player aspect of the game altogether. AJL mod has had several updates over the years. Fans of AJL mod are split between playing AJL mod R2 and AJL mod R3, which are the different release candidates. Often times AJL mod fans will play both so keep that in mind.
It's payback time! A great name for a great mod. Payback Time mod is based on AJL, AJL - LAB and VIP mod. It of course adds its own unique content as well. Payback Time differs from the others by focusing more on unique weaponry, player huds and interfaces for each character. It also re-balances all the character classes as well. However, there are a few downsides to this mod. There is no single player just like the others mentioned above. Another downside is the lack of predator representation. It should be noted that the mod is in beta and is still being developed to this day. The future is still very bright with this mod as it will only improve.
While there have been many mods made for AvP2, there is really only one total conversion mod that totally overhauls the entire look and feel of the game. This mod is "Star Wars Mod v2.0 - Special Edition" and it overhauls the entire game to make it appear like aliens and predators exist in the Star Wars universe. Nearly all the textures, sounds, music, etc of the entire game were replaced with a Star Wars theme based somewhere between episodes 1-6 and the expanded universe. Included with the mod are new custom maps for both single player and multiplayer as well. One of the more unique aspects of this mod is that it replaces a lot of the character dialogue (voice overs) with corresponding character voices. There are also numerous, new easter eggs to be found across the computer terminals, pdas and memos. These additions give the player a new reason to replay the single player campaigns. Star Wars Mod v2.0 doesn't contain any gameplay changes. Therefore, it will work on all single player and multiplayer maps as well. There is a Primal Hunt version of Star Wars Mod v2.0 as well. May the force be with you! 2ff7e9595c
